REVIEW 2019

Swiss Payment Forum
November 11 and 12, 2019

New Players, New Rules, New Game

This year's Swiss Payment Forum took place on November 11 and 12 in Zurich. Around 200 Swiss and international participants from the payment industry gathered at the 2-day conference to discuss the future of payments. The broad spectrum of topics ranged from e-wallets and super apps in China and India to biometric authentication of payment processes, emotional shopping experiences and e-commerce challenges to crypto currencies such as Bitcoin, Ether, Libra and Stablecoins.

The speakers of the user panel showed what is relevant to them in the payment process and how the decision-making process for the launch of a payment method takes place. These included the AccorHotels Group, Lidl Switzerland, euroShell Germany and the Swiss Federal Railways. The popularity of innovative payment solutions is steadily increasing, not least due to the application of biometric authentication procedures. Fintechs are constantly developing new solutions and digital banks are also gaining ground: A new game is emerging in the payment industry with new needs, rules and players. A representative survey conducted by the Swiss Payment Monitor 2019 shows that 19 percent of the Swiss and German population already receive services from neobanks such as Revolut and TransferWise.

The developments remain exciting and next year the payment industry will meet again at the Swiss Payment Forum on November 9 and 10, 2020 in Zurich.

In Plain Sight: The App Vulnerability Epidemic

The world runs on mobile, hybrid and web apps. With millions in use, they are essential to conducting business effectively and safely. The common belief is that these endpoints are simple clients that do not contain sensitive data, since valuable corporate data resides solely on servers and is well protected – this belief couldn’t be further from the truth.

Arxan Technologies and AdNovum will give real life examples and will discuss:

• Why Magecart-style web app attacks are so effective
• Results from the latest penetration testing research, documenting how 30 out of 30 mobile financial services apps across Europe and the United States are left woefully unprotected
• How AdNovum uses Arxan to protect mobile banking, insurance and government apps
